Many residents rendered homeless in Tarkwa.

Tarkwa, June 2, GNA – At least 821 residents of the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality have been displaced while 221 houses have been damaged by rains that fell between January and March.

The Municipal Coordinator of NADMO, Mr. Kenneth Mensah, said investigation conducted by his outfit showed that the major cause of disaster in some parts of the municipality was due to lack of maintenance of buildings.

He said since Tarkwa and its surrounding environs experience a lot of rainfall, the citizens should do well to renovate their buildings at least every 2 years or when the need arises to avoid disasters.

Mr. Mensah said the government together with the assembly was doing their best to assist disaster victims and appealed to individuals, philanthropist, non-governmental organizations and churches to assist the victims.
