Tsito (V/R), May 27, GNA – Mr Mahama Ayariga, Deputy Minister for Education, has urged traditional authorities to monitor and supervise performance of teachers in their areas to help to improve academic standards.
“When our children have good foundation, then we are done,” Mr Ayariga said this when he visited Awudome Senior High School during an inspection of “incubatory’ facilities for the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in the Volta region on Thursday.
He asked chiefs to develop interest in what happens in schools and investigate poor academic performance as major stakeholders.
Mr Ayariga expressed frustration with falling standards in education and called for action by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies traditional authorities and school oversight committees to help to stem the decline.
Mr Emmanuel Keteku, Ho Municipal Director of Education, earlier said while performance in Senior High Schools in the Municipal area was improving that of basic schools was not too good.
He mentioned uneven distribution of teachers and inadequate infrastructure as challenges facing the sector in the region.
