Peace seekers condemn brutalities
THE Peace Seekers International, a political pressure group, has condemned the attack on the National Organiser of the EGLE Party, Alhaji M.B. Seidu, by suspected security personnel.
“ In spite of whatever accusation that might be imputed against Alhaji Seidu, his constitutional rights ought to be protected and as such treated with respect,” it said.
This was contained in a statement signed by its National Co-ordinator, Abubakar Alhassan Daa Naa, in Accra.
The statement said the brutalities visited on Alhaji Seidu were barbaric and a threat to the country’s democratic process.
It said the avalanche of military and police brutalities against citizens of the country should be treated with the concern they deserve and unreservedly condemned.
The statement reminded all security agencies of the need to exhibit tolerance and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
“ The security apparatuses have to conduct themselves in a more civil manner in order to build a cordial relationship with the civilian population and also to prove their loyalty to the constitution and the government,” it said.
The statement said peace and stability are indispensable to the well-being of the country, stressing that “all groups and individuals, especially the security agencies, must work to ensure that”.
The statement commended the President’s call for an enquiry into the various reported cases of police brutalities against certain individuals in the country.
“The Peace Seekers International, therefore, looks forward with eagerness to the outcome of the enquiries and hopes the government would implement, without delay, the recommendations of the committee set up to undertake the exercise,” it said.
