Vice President to leave for AU Summit in Addis

Accra, May 24, GNA – Vice President John Dramani Mahama is expected to lead a government delegation to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to attend an extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

The Summit, which is slated for Wednesday May 25 to Thursday May 26, would among other things deliberate on the State of Peace and Security on the continent.

A Press Statement signed by John Abu Jinapor, Spokesperson for the Vice President, said the Extraordinary Summit would search for a roadmap to peacefully resolve the raging conflict in Libya and find solutions to the on-going civil war in that country.

He said the meeting is a follow-up on the previous African Union Peace and Security Council’s decisions which, adopted; an immediate ceasefire, the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, protection of foreign nationals, suspension of NATO air strikes and a dialogue between the government and rebels on a political settlement as solutions.

Vice President Mahama with his entourage is expected back on Friday May 26.
