President Kufuor Assures Nation of Economic Salvation

President J.A. Kufuor has expressed optimism that Ghana’s economic problems will be solved within the shortest possible time to enable the nation go forward.

The President gave this assurance when he addressed a durbar of chiefs and people of Oguaa traditional area to climax the 37th Annual Fetu Afahye festival of the people at the historic Victoria Park last weekend.

He noted that even though his party and government came to inherit some economic mess left behind by the erstwhile government of the NDC, efforts are being made to solve them before his tenure of office.

Ghana, he announced, had benefited from a $200million debt relief as a result of going HIPC which had been criticised in many quarters.

President Kufuor, who was accompanied by the Japanese delegation led by Mr. Kabin Mutu, said the government was negotiating with the Japanese government to assist in the construction of the Accra-Yamoransa main trunk road at all cost before his term ends.

He explained that it was for that reason that the Japanese delegation bad been invited to assess the bad nature of the road so as to recommend to the Japanese government to extend financial assistance to the Ghana government to construct the road.

The Head of State stated that the decision of the government to reverse the increases in fees is because his government has the plight of the people at heart and would not like them to suffer.

He pointed out that even though the cost of education continues to rise, his government will not sit down for the people to suffer untold hardships.

He further assured Ghanaians that the future of the nation is bright under his administration stressing that the Emergency Social Relief Programme (ESRP) recently launched at James Town in Accra, will soon be extended to the regions for the benefit of both farmers and fishermen to enable them improve upon their standard of living.

The President pointed out that his NPP government will never disappoint Ghanaians adding that very soon, the people will see the results of what his administration has been doing over the past few months in office.

The Omanhene, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, in his welcome address, called on all citizens of Oguaa to bury their difference to enhance unity, progress and development.
