Akome (V/R), April 30, GNA – Mr Fidelis S.K. Attoh, a former Volta Regional Director of the National Commission on Civic Education, has attributed the causes of rising heart diseases and stroke to economic and social injustices in society.
He said, 93Inability to pay school fees and taxes” was putting many people under a lot of stress and resulting in ill health. Mr Attoh said this at the launch of the 11th Annual National Constitution Week celebration in the Region at Akome, in the Ho Municipal Area.
It was on the theme: 93The State of Democracy in Ghana-2011.” Mr Attoh said his assertion was confirmed with reports of many young people, some in school, developing heart problems, which were thought to be diseases of the old.
He, therefore, called on government to introduce more social intervention programmes to resolve economic inequalities in society. Mr Attoh also urged Members of Parliament and other people in places of authority to eschew corrupt behaviours and be law abiding to create a just society.
He said this way, stress related ailments would reduce and the country would avert a possible social upheaval as being witnessed in the sub-region. Participants during an open forum expressed concern about over- taxation, high school fees and high utility bills.
