Former MCE elected as NPP parliamentary candidate

Yendi, April, 30 GNA – A former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Yendi, was on Saturday elected as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Yendi constituency for Election 2011. Alhaji Mohammed Habib Jijani had 199 votes out of 321 votes cast at the party’s parliamentary primaries at Yendi, to defeat three other contestants.

They were Dr. Abdul-Majeed Haroun, who polled 89 votes, Hajia Samata Gifty Bukari, who had 24 votes, and Abdul-Hussein Ishaq, who polled 8 votes.

In all, 328 delegates were eligible to vote, but 321 were present to cast their votes in an election that was conducted by the Electoral Commission and supervised by the Yendi Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr. John Mensah.

The NPP Yendi Constituency Chairman, Alhaji Inusah Amadu, advised the losers of the contest to rally behind Alhaji Jijani to enable NPP to win the Yendi seat in 2012.
