Tigo partners Asantehene to celebrate teachers, educational workers

Accra, April 27, GNA – Tigo Ghana is sponsoring the Otumfuo Teachers and Educational Workers Awards slated for today Wednesday April 27th, Mr Kwamena Buckman, Brand Assistant of Tigo, told the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

The maiden awards go to reward deserving teachers/educational workers in rural areas in Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Eastern regions, he said and indicated that the Ghana education service would supervise the ceremony which was expected to reward=A0200 teachers and educational workers.

Mr Buckman said the sponsorship was in line with Tigo’s corporate social responsibility agenda, which included supporting and improving the quality of education in Ghana.

He said the company had refurbished many schools=A0and this time around Tigo was proud to partner the Asantehene to reward excellence in education.

Tigo Ghana, Mr Buckman said, refurbished the Nima Cluster of schools, constructed a two classroom block for the Opportunities Industrialization Centre (OIC) and distributed boots and books to children from under privileged neighborhoods. In the Ashanti Region, Mr Buckman said Tigo had been involved in areas of health and education – constructing a reproductive and child hospital unit in Nyinahin, adding very soon the company would begin the construction of a kitchen complex for the Anglican Women’s Vocational Institute at Nkawie.

He was hopeful that both the Nkawie and Nyinahin projects would be commissioned soon.

Mr Buckman thanked Otumfuo for inviting Tigo Ghana to be part of such great initiative.

“We are grateful and wish to assure him (Otumfuo), teachers and educational workers that, Tigo Ghana can always be counted on as a partner in driving excellence in education,” he noted. He said Tigo hoped the awards would encourage teachers to accept postings into the deprived communities, which invariably should lift the standards of learning in these areas.
