Accra, April 21, GNA – The season where most Christians celebrate the death and resurrection of Christ has drawn so close and people are travelling to their various home towns to join relations for the celebrations.
The celebration of Easter at one’s hometown in Ghana means a lot to most Christians, as they meet to engage in various activities to mark the occasion.
At the Accra-Ho station, there was shortage of vehicles, as passengers converged there waiting to be transported to their home town to celebrate Easter.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Nana Kwame Sarpong, Chairman of the Accra-Ho station, said the passengers were waiting for vehicles, which one way or the other had been 91stranded’ at Ho, due to very few people coming down to Accra.
He said during such seasons, there was always shortage of vehicles, as more people travel to Ho and surrounding villages to spend the Easter with relatives, as well as meet old friends. He said the passengers, mostly women and children, who hardly travel home, normally found it appropriate to take a long time off their daily duties to celebrate with friends and families, as well as reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Nana Sarpong gave the assurance that by the close of day today, all the passengers would have been transported to their destinations safely, as much preparation had been done to ensure the availability of vehicles.
He urged drivers to drive carefully to avoid road accidents. Nene Alimo, a businessman, said Easter was a very important activity in his life and travels yearly to Agotime, his hometown, to celebrate Easter with his family and friends.
He said although, he travels home occasionally, he attaches great importance to Easter.
Nene Alimo called on Christians not to take the celebration of Easter for fun but as a time to do some real soul-searching and transformation, because Easter was to remind them of the death and the agony Jesus Christ went through to save mankind, adding that, 93It is all about celebration and thanksgiving.”
Other passengers who spoke to GNA expressed their joy of leaving their homes, jobs and other activities to go home and enjoy with the extended family members.
