Govt and Teachers commended for resolving Single Spine impasse

Accra, April 9, GNA – Mr Tettey Nettey, President of Meridian Pre-University on Saturday commended the

Government and teachers for amicably resolving the operational

hiccup encountered during the migration of teachers onto the

Single Spine Salary Structure. “The education of the youth is very crucial for the survival of

any nation, therefore Ghanaian children must not suffer unduly

for administrative and policy hiccups through intermittent strike

by teachers. “It was refreshing that both parties exhibited high sense of

maturity and urgency in correcting the anomalies which occurred

last month,” Mr Nettey told news men in Accra. Mr Nettey urged the Government, National Association of

Graduate Teachers and Ghana National Association of Teachers

to demonstrate their commitment to the accord and adhere to

timelines in resolving any other outstanding issues. He said teachers played a crucial role in the promotion of

education in every nation and as such nothing should be made to

compel them to withdraw their services at any given period. The President of Meridian Pre-University also called on the

West African Examination Council (WAEC) and other

stakeholders to ensure that the on-going West Africa Senior

Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Basic

Education Certificate Examination are conducted with limited

infractions. The WAEC has indicated that it was set to organize both

examinations from April to May this year. Mr Nettey also cautioned candidates to avoid examination

malpractices and any other acts that may force authorities to

cancel their results. The first batch of students, under the Senior High School

four-year Education Programme will on April 6 begin the 2011

WASSSCE.
