More benefit from Ghana School Feeding Program

Cape Coast, April 1, GNA – At least 43,558 pupils in 120 deprived schools in the Central Region are benefiting from the School Feeding Programme, the Regional Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Ms Sarah Yeboah, has said.

She said the Regional Secretariat had developed a pass book which requires the daily recording of the activities of caterers. The book is signed by head teachers and other stakeholders and later handed over to a desk created at the district level to ensure accountability.

Ms. Yeboah said this at a day’s workshop aimed at enlightening the media practitioners on the structures of the Programme.

The Focal Person of the GSFP, Mrs. Irene Messiba said since its inception in 2005, the Programme had made significant strides, feeding more than 700,000 school pupils nationwide. She said it was not about feeding pupils only but to also boost local food production. It is also to help check malnutrition amongst deprived communities through the serving of one hot meal per child per day and also create employment at the district level, increase school enrolment, attendance and retention with a long term goal of eradicating poverty and encouraging food security. 01 April 11
