Muntaka tells Muslim leaders to promote education

Kumasi, March 22, GNA – Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawasi, has called for a conscious effort by stakeholders in Muslim communities to promote education at all levels. Education, he said, has no substitute and that, it presents an opportunity through which the high rate of illiteracy, unemployment and ignorance in Muslim communities, could be addressed for a better living condition.

Alhaji Mubarak said this when he donated GHC5,000 to the Islamic Education Fund at the central mosque in Kumasi, on Tuesday. The money was from his share of the Common Fund to support the Educatio= n Fund, to realize its objective of promoting secular education among the Muslim youth.

The MP observed that there are a lot of talents in the Zongo communitie= s but these could only be harnessed through comprehensive educational initiatives and policies by stakeholders.

He affirmed his commitment to liaising with Non-Governmental Organizations in his area to improve educational infrastructure, especially at the basic level, saying through such collaborations, about 500 desks wer= e distributed to some deprived schools at Asawasi recently.

Alhaji Mubarak appealed to feuding Muslim factions in the area to exercise restraint, since Islam abhors violence in all forms. He said the recent clash between the Al-Sunna and Tijaniya sects in the area was uncalled for and that the leadership should advise their followers to remain united at all times.

Mr Salihu Bamba, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fund, thanked the MP for the gesture and appealed to the well-to-do Muslims to contribute towards meeting the agenda of the Fund.
