Twifo Praso, March 20, GNA – The District Chief
Executive (DCE) of the Twifo Heman-Lower Denkyira District
Assembly, Mr. Foster Joseph Andoh, has cautioned operators
in community water supply to desist from politicizing the sale
of water. These include vendors, system managers and pumps
managers of Community Water and Sanitation projects. Mr. Andoh gave the advice at the official handing over
ceremony of Pipe Water Project for three Communities in the
Twifo-Heman-Lower-Denkyira District of the Central Region at
Atti Morkwa, at the weekend.
He said the water-delivery facilities are constructed to
benefit everyone, irrespective of political affiliation and charged
the Water and Sanitation Development Board (WSDB) to work
judiciously to protect the water facilities. The Water project was financed by the World Bank under
the International Development Agency (IDA) at a total cost of
GHC 793,000. It was facilitated by the Community Water and
Sanitation Agency (CWSA) under its Small Towns Water
Supply Project. The beneficiary communities are Twifo Atti Mokwa,
Breman and Sebrensu, which have a total of 14 stand pipes,
two pump houses, two transformers and an iron removal plant
with a 30,000 gallon capacity water tank. The DCE charged the people to assume full responsibility of
the maintenance of the facilities by ensuring that the stand
pipes and water pumps were always in good conditions and
reminded them that similar projects would only be replicated
for others when they maintain the facility properly. Mr. Andoh stated that proceeds from the sale of the water
will be used to improve the general infrastructure in the town
and asked the people to desist from drinking unclean water
from rivers and streams with an excuse that they could not
afford potable water. Mrs. Pauline Abrefi Oppong, Regional Director of the
CWSA, said the communities should appreciate the social
amenity and cautioned against unsanitary conditions,
particularly around the stand pipes to prevent the spread of
diseases. She reiterated calls on the people to adopt the culture of
maintenance, openness and accountability to enable the town
reap the full benefits of the water project. Chief of Twifo Atti Morkwa, Nana Kwasi Dade, and the
Assembly man of the area took turns to show their profound
appreciation to the government for bringing potable drinking
water to the town and asked the communities to use water
wisely. They also appealed to the government to provide the
community with a medical assistant, construct additional
classroom blocks and provide good feeder roads. 20 March 11
