Teachers boycott classes in Kumasi

Kumasi, March 9, GNA – Most public basic schools in the Kumasi Metropolis, on Thursday, remained closed, as teachers’ tightens their demand for a fair deal in the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).

Teachers across the country have expressed disappointment and anger at not only the anomalies but the quantum of salaries paid to them after their migration onto the new salary scheme.

They have vowed to ignore the appeal by the government to return to the classroom while it worked hard to clean up the abnormalities.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) went round to find out what was happening in the schools, it came out that many of them did not open at all..

Where both pupils and teachers had reported, no academic work was goin= g on.

Most teachers were seen sitting under trees chatting, whiles their pupils were loitering. A female teacher, who would not give her name, said 93My sister, we h= ave had enough of the insult and deception. All we are asking for is fairness.= ” She said she found it irritating when some officials 93try lamely to create the impression that salary rationalization does not mean increase in salaries” and asked 93What did they mean when they said the SSSS was goi= ng to make the public sector attractive?” In the Senior High Schools (SHS), the call for strike by the leadershi= p of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) is holding.
