Asylumdown Presby celebrates Independence anniversary

Accra, March 7, GNA – The Asylumdown Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, on Sunday, 6th March, cut an anniversary cake decorated in the national colours of red, gold, green and the black star to marked Ghana’s Independence Day celebration.

The cake was shared among members of the congregation with the popping of champagne amidst celebration and thanksgiving to God for how far He has brought the country. The Reverend Kingsley Kwaku Gyekye, Pastor in charge of the congregation, said Ghanaians have every cause to thank God for the prevailing peace and stability in the country. “Ghana is 54 years and we have not seen any war and we will not see any war in the history and future of the country,” he said stressing the need for Ghanaians to be thankful to God.

The congregation used the day as a forum to discuss the issue of immoral dressing among the youth and possible solutions to the problem of immoral dressing and behavior among the youth.

Some elders of the congregation, who were present during Ghana’s independence celebration 54 years ago, noted that during the independence era, there were similar fashionable clothes compared to what the youth of today wore, however, it seemed that the modern day youth were over doing it. Mr Kojo Adarkwa, one of the elders of the church, said the youth of today seemed to be over-copying the white man but that should not be the case and urged the youth and Christians in general to appreciate what they have as a nation and patronize it.

Majority of the members of the church wore colourful Kente clothes. Some women also wore stylish head scarf and beads to match while others were seen in clothes with the national colours. The congregation later prayed for continued peace in the country.
