Nsawam celebrates Independence Anniversary

Nsawam (E/R), March 6, GNA – Mr Omar Amadu-Babou, the Municipal Coordinating Director of Akuapem South, has called on parents and guardians to spend their resources on their children’s education to make them usefu= l citizens to the country.

Mr Amadu-Babou gave the advice at the 54th Independence Day Parade at the Prisons Park at Nsawam on Sunday. He said the government was giving free exercise books, expanding the school feeding programme, giving full tuition to teachers to pursue further studies through distance learning and providing school infrastructure for pupils who otherwise attended classes under trees.

The Municipal Director said two contracts had already been awarded for the construction of classrooms and three more would be on board soon to revamp collapsed science resource centres to enhance teaching and learning of science and mathematics in the district. He said government was, additionally, providing extra classrooms and residential accommodation facilities to all Senior High Schools in the country. Mr Amadu-Babou described the experiences teachers went through recentl= y with regard to the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) as unfortunate, and urged the teachers to exercise patience as the relevant authorities were making efforts to correct the distortions and imbalances. He said a technical committee had been established to look at the concerns raised as a result of the migration of the education workers on to the SSSS. Mr Amadu-Babou appealed on Ghanaians to unite for the sake of future generations so that Ghana would be 93a better place than we came to meet i= t”. He declared, 93We will not be building our nation with our blood but with our hands, toil and loyalty.”
