Dormaa teachers threaten to demonstrate

Dormaa Ahenkro (B/A), March 2, GNA – Teachers in basic schools in Dormaa Ahenkro on Wednesday threatened to withdraw their services indefinitely unless government took immediate steps to hook them onto the single spine salary policy.

The teachers took the decision at an emergency meeting held on Wednesday at the Roman Catholic Primary B School in Dormaa Ahenkro. Wearing red bands on their wrists and around their necks the teachers vowed to boycott the upcoming 54th independence anniversary activities and threatened to sabotage the march past by dealing drastically with any of their colleagues who would flout the warning and take part in the anniversary activities.

A spokesperson, Madam Twumasiwaa Asamoah Asare, said teachers in the area had lost confidence in the Ghana National Association of Teachers for its inability to fight the cause of teachers. She said the teachers were in the process of seeking clearance from the police to embark on a peaceful demonstration at Dormaa Ahenkro aimed at drawing the government’s attention to their displeasure about the wanton delay in placing teachers on the single spine.

Mr Ernest Kofi Lotsu, Dormaa Municipal GNAT Secretary, told the resolve the issue and appealed to the teachers to exercise restraint. 02 March 11
