150 Tano Pupils Suffer From Bilharzia

Sunyani, – 16 June More than 150 school children between the ages of six and 13 are suffering from bilharzia in the Tano district of Brong-Ahafo region. The affected school children are at Terchire, Adorobaa, Derma, Bronsankro and Ankaase, a recent survey has revealed. The Zonal supervisor of the non-formal education division (NFED) of the ministry of education at Terchire, Mr Addai Asubonteng, told the Ghana News Agency at Sunyani that efforts to control the disease has not been successful due to lack of vaccines. According to Mr Asubonteng the district director of health services at Bechem was invited to the area but he complained of lack of the required vaccines for the treatment of the disease and therefore could not rpt not attend to the victims. Mr Asubonteng therefore appealed to the Tano district assembly to consider the plight of the people and release funds to purchase the drugs for the treatment of the children.
