Accra, Feb. 25, GNA – Personnel of the Ghana Police Service have bee= n advised to ensure effective implementation of laws and regulations pertaining to immigration and related criminal issues in the country. Chief Superintendent of Police Mohammed Fuseini Suraji, Deputy Directo= r of Community Policing Unit of the Service, who gave the advice said the Police were responsible for the protection of lives and property. He gave the advice when addressing the opening session of a seminar organised for police officers on 93The Concept of Community Policing” in Accra on Friday.
Chief Superintendent Suraji said policing was about partnership and co-operation between the service personnel and the public. “Policing also allows the Police and Community to work together to solve problems of crime, insecurity, disorder and safety as well as to improve the quality of life for the people, 93he added. Chief Superintendent Suraji said Community Policing was to encourage the establishment of close relations with all stakeholders such as civil society organisations, the clergy and opinion leaders for effective solutio= n to problems to safeguard the communities.
He urged the Police to treat their civilian counterparts with respect and kindness to build public trust. Mr Freeman Tettey, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Police service, urged the personnel to exhibit professionalism during the line of duty by avoiding th= e unnecessary use of force and overconfidence.
