Driver in court for stealing taxi cab

Kade, Feb 16, GNA – Eric Kwaku Offei, a driver, was on Wednesday arraigned before the Kade District Magistrate Court for stealing a taxi cab= .. Offei pleaded guilty with explanation and the court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu remanded him in prison custody to re-appear on February 22. Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court that bot= h the complainant, Nana Sentie Agyei, a farmer and Offei lived at Okumaning. He said the complainant owned an Opel Kadeth taxi cab about a month ago, Offei went to the complainant and expressed interest in driving his taxi cab. The prosecutor said the complainant, who was searching for a driver, released his vehicle to Offei to work with and told him to ply the taxi onl= y on the Kade/Okumaning road. Offei after working for three days without making any sales to the complainant left Okumaning to an unknown destination with the taxi. The prosecutor said while the complainant was searching for the driver, he had information that Offei was hiding at Larteh with the taxi. He followed up to the town where he met the driver working with the taxi cab.

The prosecutor said on seeing the car owner, the driver took to his heels leaving the taxi behind. With the help of a driver, the complainant brought the vehicle to Okumaning. On February 07, the complainant made a report to the police and on tha= t same day Offei was arrested by the Larteh police and escorted to the Kade police station.
