Three to contest New Juaben primary on NPP ticket

Koforidua, Feb. 11, GNA – Three people, including the incumbent Membe= r of Parliament, have expressed their interest to contest the New Juaben Sout= h Constituency Parliamentary primary on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The party goes to congress on April 30 to elect new members to contest as Members of Parliament for the 2012 election. They are Ms Beatrice Bernice Boateng, the incumbent MP, Mr Michael Adu, an agriculturalist and former constituency first vice chairman and Dr Assibey Yeboah, an Economist and lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

The three made their intentions known to the constituency chairman, Mr Alex Agyena-Sarpong, at a meeting in Koforidua.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Koforidua on Friday, Mr Agyena-Sarpong confirmed that the three had made their intention known and that the constituency executive would soon invite them for a meeting to discuss all other issues concerning the primary. He urged the aspirants to eschew any behaviour that could affect the fortunes of the party in the constituency in 2012. Mr Agyena-Sarpong called on all the party supporters to accept them and ensure that the best person was elected among them to contest the seat for the party.

He urged them to avoid insults and unnecessary accusations and counter accusations and conduct themselves well during the campaign. Mr Agyena- Sarpong cautioned that the party would deal drastically with any aspirant who would be found to have violated the laid down regulations of the party.

He said their main objective was to win the 2012 election and alleviate Ghanaians from the economic sufferings they were going through in the hands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), government and nothing should be done to derail that effort.

The New Juaben South Constituency has remained one of the strong holds of the NPP since 1996. 11 Feb. 11
