Russian and Ghanaian accomplices arrested for illegal mining

Sekondi, Feb. 4, GNA – Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces and the Forest Services Division, have arrested Rose Mark, a 36-year-old Russian an= d three Ghanaians for engaging in illegal mining in the Neung South Forest Reserve, near Tarkwa.

The four suspects were arrested at about 1430 hours prospecting for gold. Chief Inspector Olivia Adiku, Public Relations Officer of the Western Regional Police Command, told a media briefing session in Sekondi on Thursday that the Ghanaians were Emmanuel Kwaw, 37, Kwabena Kesse, 31 and Amoako Martin, 25.

She said three excavators, pumping machines and other items were retrieved from the suspects. Chief Inspector Adiku said the suspects would be arraigned after polic= e investigations.
