Water Board inspects water project in Garu-Tempane

Garu-Tempane (UE), Jan. 28, GNA – Board members of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), on Thursday, inspected community water projects in the Garu- Tempane District of the Upper East Region.

The Board Members, led by Mr Francis Yaw Garko, Board Chairman and National Coordinator for the Ghana School Feeding Programme, went round the Garu Tempane district and its environs to inspect about 24 water projects, sponsored by the community water and sanitation agency, which are to provide portable drinking water to communities in the district.

Among the inspected projects were water pumps, boreholes, overhead water tanks and newly constructed water facilities in the district.

Mr Garko, at a meeting with the District Water Board Members, charged the members to be responsible to the constitutional mandate accorded to them so that it can guide them to serve their communities better.

He noted that water was an essential component of life and there would a need to hold regular meetings to update themselves with water management issues in the area.

At Kpatia, a community near Garu, Mr Garko asked the community water unit committee to contribute monies for the future, so that if the boreholes breakdown they could use those funds to repair it without depending on the district assembly. He asked them to cooperate with the assembly in terms of water and sanitation issues.

Ms. Babara Barnes, a member of the national board and representative from the Ministry of Water Resources Works and Housing, commended women in the area for the active participation in managing water in the area. She asked them to continue doing that since water was important in the home.

The Board later presented 130 pit latrines to some house holds in the Garu community.
