Marriage counsellor calls for simple marriage ceremonies

A renowned marriage counsellor, Mr. John Oppong, has kicked against the
mordenisation of marriage ceremonies and urged families to stick to the simple,
traditional but unique marriage ceremonies.
“Currently, some aspects of marriage ceremonies are not necessary and the time has
come for us to revert to the traditional ways of conducting marriage ceremonies”, he
said.Speaking on “Aware Akwantuo”, on Sunyani based Space FM, the marriage
counsellor condemned the practice where relatives, and friends of couples are made
to pay monies as capital for the new couples.
” I strongly object to the practice where relatives and friends of couples are made
to pay monies as capital for couples to start their marriage lives”, he said.Mr.
Oppong observed that in most cases, relatives and friends are embarrased such that
when Mcs at such functions make monetary demands, the couples are made to continue
standing till some body bails them out.
He pointed out that marriage ceremonies are supposed to be simple, less expensive
and rich traditionally and does not see the reason why MCs at such ceremonies demand
so much monies in the name of showing love to the couples.
Mr Oppong appealed to families and churches to protect our culture by ensuring that
marriage ceremonies are conducted with best traditinal practices.
“I urge families and churches to put in measures to ensure that marriage ceremonies
are conducted in simple and the accepted tradtitional ways”, he said.
The marriage counsellor was particular about engagement ceremonies where some MCs
insist that relatives, friends, and some times co workers pay monies just to show
love to the couples. This he noted, is very embarrasing and must be stopped
immediately.
