Anti-human trafficking desk opens at Elubo border

Half Assini (W/R), Dec. 16, GNA – An anti-Human Trafficking Desk has been opened at the Elubo border in the Western Region to deal with human trafficking affairs.

Mr Felix Sarpong, Elubo Sector Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service, said this at a three-day workshop on Human Trafficking for immigration officers, police personnel, other personnel of the security services and drivers’ unions in the Jomoro District, at Half Assini. The workshop on the theme: “Getting Tough on Human Trafficking,” was organized by the Ghana Immigration Service and sponsored by the UNICEF. Mr Sarpong said between January and November this year, the Elubo Sector Command stopped 70 people being transferred across the border. They were 50 females and 20 men being trafficked across the border to Cote d’ Ivoire.

He said the Ghana Immigration Service Management Bureau earmarked this year to expand its Anti Human Trafficking Activities at the borders of the country. This was started at the Aflao border. The Sector Commander said elimination of human trafficking required the cooperation of everyone and called on the public to assist in fighting the problem. The District Chief Executive for Jomoro, Mr Victor Kablan, said the workshop was appropriate because it would equip the participants with additional knowledge. 16 Dec. 10
