Ga East Municipal Assembly organises seminar for aspirants

Abokobi (GAR), Dec. 15, GNA – The Ga East Municipal Assembly on Wednesday organised a day’s sensitisation seminar for aspirants of the 2010 District Level Election. Mr John Kwao Sackey, Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, addressing the aspirants appealed to them to be circumspect in their messages to their electorate and to desist from false promises.

“You should desist from making promises with the provision of roads, electricity and other projects that are beyond your capabilities,” he said. He urged them to work extra hard and cooperate with the Assembly to achieve its main objective of developing the Municipality. Mr Sackey advised them to desist from inflammatory comments that could create confusion in their electoral areas.

He inaugurated a nine-member Security Committee tasked to supervise the elections.

Mr Kingsley Owusu-Ansah, Ga East Municipal Chief Electoral Officer advised the over 70 aspirants to be tolerant before, during and after the elections, and to educate their polling agents on the rules and regulations governing the elections to prevent problems during the exercise. He said although every aspirant had the right to mount platforms in all the 19 electoral areas to propagate their messages, they should endeavour to inform the Police.

Police Chief Superintendent Paul Ayittey, Madina Divisional Police Commander, said the Police had made adequate preparations for some flashpoints identified in the municipality. In an open forum, the aspirants appealed to the Presiding Officers to respect their Polling Agents and called for more education for the security personnel who would be deployed during the elections.
