Cape Coast, Dec. 10, GNA – In a bid to ensure peaceful district level elections scheduled for December 28, the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly has inaugurated an Assembly Election Taskforce to facilitate the process. The taskforce comprise 15 representatives of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Prisons Service and Ghana Immigration Service.
Mr Anthony Nyame, Metropolitan Electoral Officer, who made this known, said Cape Coast electoral areas were now 45 with 118 polling stations. He said 131 candidates filed their nominations with only two females taking part in the polls.
Mr Nyame said the Electoral Commission would mount platforms for the candidates to market themselves.
He asked the taskforce to be fair, firm and impartial. Mr Anthony Egyir Aikins, Metropolitan Chief Executive mandated the taskforce to maintain law and order before, during and after the elections. Assistant Superintendent of Police William Yankey Accolatse, Chairman of the Joint Security Taskforce, appealed to the metropolitan assembly, traditional council and the general public to join hands to ensure the success of the election.
