Civil Service Council denies Mills orders probe of Muntaka Mubarak

Accra, Nov. 30, GNA-The Civil Service Council on Tuesday denied that President John Evans Atta Mills has ordered a probe of former Youth and Sports Minister, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak Muntaka, over a missing 20,000 US dollars.

A rejoinder signed by Ms Thomasia Kimura-Nunoo of the Public Relations Unit of the Office of the Head of Civil Service and circulated to the media, described the publication in an Accra-based newspaper as “misleading and highly mischievous”.

It said the Civil Service Council as presently constituted and oriented was clearly non-partisan.

“The interest of the Civil Service Council in this matter is simply to conclude investigations into how such a huge sum of 20,000 dollars vanished from the vault of the Ministry without any trace or proper accountability while civil servants were deemed to be in effective control.”

It said the Executive had not engaged in any overt or covert communication with the Civil Service Council on the matter. “It is again mischievous for the author to claim that Dr Robert Dodoo, the Chairman of the Civil Service Council, signed the letter inviting specified civil servants to a meeting. The Chairman does not sign or handle such routine letters of invitation.”

The rejoinder said it was also “incorrect and misleading” that Mr Albert Ampong and Adim Odoom, both senior officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, were recalled from interdiction due to threats of contempt of court from their lawyers.
