Food and Drugs Board destroys unwholesome goods

Bolgatanga, Nov. 27, GNA – The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) in the Upper East Region, at the weekend destroyed expired and unregistered goods estimated to cost GhC 100,000.00, seized between January and November 2010. These include assorted can drinks, aphrodisiacs, alcoholic beverages, drugs and biscuits among others.

Mr. Zakariah Briamah, Zonal Officer for the Bolgatanga branch, FDB, said that it was illegal to sell, display and advertise, unregistered and expired products.

Mr Briamah advised the general public to check for the expiry dates of products and drugs before buying. He also cautioned Ghanaians to be weary of promotion and reduction sales of products since wholesalers could use that to empty their warehouses to create room for new consignments. Mr. Braimah said the Bolgatanga office would institute severe measures against recalcitrant shop owners to serve as deterrent to others.
