ECG explains current emergency load management

Accra, Nov. 25, GNA – The management of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says current high load-levels resulting from increased industry production and air conditioning, have substantially compromised the company’s capacity to meet demand.

Mr Bernard Nyatafe, acting Director of Operations of the ECG said: “This situation has compelled the company to embark on an emergency load management sometimes”.

A statement issued on Wednesday said, as a result, the company has started embarking on numerous projects currently to address the challenges. It added that though the challenges were identified years ago, the company had now received the needed resources to fix them. “Our appeal to our customers is for their continued understanding at this time as the situation will surely see significant improvement soon,” it said.

Explaining the causes of outages, the statement said, they could come from equipment failure, which happens when ECG has chance to give prior information to its customers. Planned outages, it said are deliberate interventions made by ECG to create safe working environment for maintenance and extension works.
