Books and laboratory equipment at the mercy of termites

Nadowli (U/W), Nov. 23, GNA – Books and laboratory equipment are at the mercy of termites at the Queen of Peace Senior High School in Nadowli due= to the lack of a library and a science laboratory where they could be stored=

and put to good use.

The books and laboratory equipment were donated to the school by som= e friends from the United Kingdom. The Rev. Sister Justina Dery, the Headmistress of the School, said t= his when Alhaji Issahaku Salia, the Upper West Regional Minister, visited the=

school to hand over a six-unit emergency classroom block constructed at t= he cost of GH¢284,436.25 to the school authorities. She expressed gratitude to the government for the facility and said by January 2011, the School would be 11 years old but lacked facilities need= ed to make teaching and learning conducive for both teachers and students. The Rev Sister Dery said the School had no boy’s hostel and accommodation for teachers and teachers who accepted postings to the scho= ol did so sacrificially. She said the School with its population of 812 students was using th= e dining hall as the boy’s hostel.

The Rev Sister Dery appealed to the Regional Minister to provide the=

School with a library and a science laboratory to enable them offload the=

materials from the containers to avoid losing them to termites. She also appealed for teachers’ accommodation and boys’ hostel. Alhaji Salia said the government would assist the school to solve so= me of its pressing problems.
