Information Minister lodges complaint at NMC against Daily Guide

Accra, Nov. 23, GNA – The Minister of Information, Mr John Tia Akologu, on Tuesday formally lodged a complaint at the National Media Commission (NMC) against the Daily Guide newspaper for its editorial of November 22, headlined “John Tia’s Theatricals”.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the NMC dated November 23, the Minister said the editorial was in reaction to a statement he issued and a radio programme he was on to clarify issues on the 2011 budget. “The paper instead of dealing with the issues rather attacked my personality. I consider this attack as an attempt to destroy my reputation not only as a qualified and trained journalist, but also my accomplishment as a Member of Parliament for 18 years now and achievement as the Minister of Information,” the letter said.

Mr Akologu said unlike others who would equally have responded unethically, he as a professional and one who knew the right thing to do was drawing the attention of the NMC to the editorial. “I am by this letter requesting your office to order the paper to retract the editorial and render an unqualified apology to me else I will instruct my lawyers to take the necessary action to redeem my hard won reputation,” the letter said. 23 Nov. 10
