Post Offices to enjoy ICT connectivity

Takoradi, Nov. 22, GNA – The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications, (GIFEC) Mr. Kofi Attor, has said 350 post offices across the country would soon enjoy Information and Communication Technology (ICT) connectivity. He said already 50 of such facilities, including the Jasikan Post Office, were benefiting from Information and Communication Technology connectivity on a pilot basis. He made this announcement at a public education seminar organized by the Ministry of Communications on the Telecommunication Mast at Takoradi at the weekend.

He said that post offices would serve as satellite hubs for extending the rural connectivity of the Community Information Centre Project being undertaken by his office. “GIFEC will provide this form of support to 80 post offices over a three year period from 2010-2012,” he added. Mr. Attor said that his outfit would again supply equipment and train people at selected post offices across the country. He added that GIFEC was focused on its mandate and, therefore, considered the provision of electronic communications services as very important and critical in the nation’s quest for ICT development.
