GAF organizes medical outreach for civilians

Apremdo (W/R), Nov. 18, GNA – Two Garrison Command made up of the Air Force, Armed Forces and Navy in the Western Region, on Wednesday organized a day’s medical outreach on drug abuse, child nutrition and personal hygiene for residents of Apremdo in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis. Participants also checked their blood pressure, blood-sugar content and had dental care.

Lieutenant Colonel Selina Ag yeawah Boakye, Nursing Officer in charge of the Garrison medical centres, said the programme formed part of activities marking the Ghana Armed Forces Community Relations week celebration. It aimed at strengthening the civilian-military cooperation and creating awareness about chronic diseases and offer medical assistance for those suffering from the diseases.

The celebration would also be used to commemorate 50 years of participation of the Ghana Armed Forces in international peace operations. Lt. Col. Boakye said the military would cooperate with civilians, protect lives and property and safeguard the territorial integrity of the nation.

She asked the public to patronise the medical centres of the two Garrison.

Military personnel also desilted gutters and fill pot holes in the Municipality.

The one week celebration, themed: “the Ghana Armed Forces -your dependable partners in national development”, would be climaxed by fun games and live concert band on Saturday.
