GJA condemns behaviour of Metro TV man

Sunyani, Nov. 18, GNA – The Brong-Ahafo Regional branch of Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed its determination to help weed out media practitioners who indulge in fraudulent activities that soil the image of journalists in the region and the country as a whole. The association has therefore in a statement disassociated itself from the activities of one Emmanuel Ankamah, who claims to be the Brong-Ahafo Regional correspondent of Metro TV.

He is alleged to have collected huge sums of money from some district assemblies and other state organisations under the pretext of producing television documentaries on their activities.

The statement signed by Mr. Ian Mortey, regional chairman of the GJA said “Ankamah took huge sums of money claiming he would produce documentaries on the assembly’s activities and projects. “He allegedly promised the district chief executives that these documentaries would be aired on Metro TV but that never happened. Several state organisations including the regional hospital in Sunyani and non-governmental organisations have also fallen prey to Ankamah’s activities”, the statement said.

The statement condemned the fraudulent behaviour of Ankamah and described is activities as “unethical” and “an affront to the noble profession and also criminal”.

It urged all media practitioners in the region to do their work with a high sense of dedication and responsibility without infringing on the rights of individuals and society. When contacted by the Ghana News Agency, Ankamah vehemently denied that he had been involved in the alleged fraudulent activities.
