Government improves the Communication sector

Accra, Nov. 18, GNA – Dr Kwabena Duffuor, the Finance Minister, on Thursday outlined specific Communication projects undertaken in the communication sector during the year and said they were the result of prudent fiscal measures taken by the Government.

Presenting the 2010 annual budget in Accra, the Minister said the consolidated International Gateway Monitoring System was installed to hel= p the Communication sector to accelerate the development of mobile telephon= y. In addition, he said 90 per cent of the Kumasi-Techiman-Tamale stret= ch of the National Fibre Backbone Project was completed while an additional 90 per cent of the Navrongo-Paga path and 50 per cent of the Tumu-Wenchi stretch were also completed.

Dr Duffuor said the Enterprise Architecture (EA) and e-Government Interoperability Framework designed to bring efficiency and transparency into government operations were launched during the year.

“As part of the Schools Connectivity Project, 760 computers were supplied to 38 training colleges in the country”, the Minister said. The budget which was on the theme: “Stimulating Growth for Developme= nt and Job Creation”, aimed at meeting the Government’s “Better Ghana Agenda= “. It also covered achievements and plans in specific areas such as Education, Oil and Gas, Energy, Health, Trade and Industry, Agro-Processi= ng, Agriculture, Water, Works and Housing and other key interventions.
