Rawlingses greet Muslims on Eid

Accra, Nov. 16, GNA – Former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu, have sent a message to Muslims congratulating them on the occasion of the festival of sacrifice, Eidul-Adha, which falls on Tuesday. In a statement issued in Accra, the former first couple said Eidul-Adha represented a significant Islamic ideal that should be appreciated and respected by everyone.

“As we pray and offer gifts to our friends and neighbours, let us remember the poor and destitute,” the statement issued by the Office of the Former President said.

“Let us put a smile on their faces today and pray for better days for them. For those who were unable to make the Hajj pilgrimage this year, we pray that they have the opportunity in the coming years.” The Rawlingses called on Muslims to pray for goodness, fortitude and hope for Ghana and called on moderation during the celebration. They also called on the youth to respect the sanctity of the occasion and celebrate in a solemn manner. “Barka da sala to all,” they said.

Mr Herbert Mensah, a businessman and sports administrator, in his message, extended best wishes to Muslims in Ghana and around the world on the occasion of Eidul-Adha. He said Eidul-Adha was meant to be recognition of the material and spiritual favours of God to His creatures. “This is a manifestation of total submission to the command of Allah: one submits one’s mind, wealth, and body to the command and pleasure of Allah, Mr Mensah said. “On this day, Muslims all over the world thank God for the gift bestowed on them.” 16 Nov. 10
