National Service Personnel wants to enjoy labour rights

Tamale, Nov. 11, GNA – National Service Personnel in the Northern Region have appealed to the National Service Secretariat to consider extending rights enjoyed by workers to service personnel. They said though they recognized national service as a patriotic service rendered to the nation, the rights of personnel at their posting places must be protected by the labour laws.

This was contained in a press release issued in Tamale on Thursday and signed by Mr Ibrahim Abdul-Shakur Mallam, Northern Regional President of the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA). The statement called for effective supervision done by the service secretariat to ensure personnel were duly at post. It said due to ineffective and weak supervision, most service personnel either desert or abandon their post in connivance with some use= r agencies. The statement said posting service personnel to remotest parts of th= e country would not only achieve development at the grassroots but also promote national unity and cohesion among Ghanaians. It appealed to chiefs and opinion leaders of communities where serv= ice personnel had been posted to support them in terms of offering them accommodation.
