NDC slams renegade group

Accra, Nov.10, GNA – The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed concern about the activities of a group calling itself “Greater Accra TEIN”, which it claimed is not an official organ of the party.

The FEC said it is studying the details of the programme organised by the group and would soon come out with an official position on it. A statement issued in Accra on Wednesday by Dr Kwabena Adjei, National Chairman of the party, condemned a speech read by one Dela Coffie and published in the Tuesday, November 9, of an Accra daily in the name of Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR), which attacked the integrity of President John Evans Atta Mills and Vice President John Dramani Mahama.

It said the NDC had distanced itself from the publication since “the party does not recognise FONKAR or any of such groups and their purported executives”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the party shall fish out and identify the likes of Dela Coffie and deal with them in accordance with the relevant provisions of the party’s constitution,” the statement said. The FEC expressed dismay about a statement attributed to Dr Ekwow Spio-Gabrah, Vice Chairman of the party on the accommodation of the former First Family, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings and Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The statement said Dr Spio-Gabrah was appointed Chairman of a three-member committee set up to resolve the former first couple’s accommodation problem, but unfortunately, he left the country for his UK base without calling a meeting. The FEC advised all members of the NDC to respect their colleagues and adhere strictly to the provisions of the party’s constitution.
