ICT teacher wins international award

Kumasi, Nov 10, GNA – A 30-year old Information, Communication Technology (ICT) teacher at Maabang Senior High School (SHS) in the Ahafo-Ano North District, Mr Samuel Avornyo, has won an international award for “Best practice in Innovation.”

This was at the World Wide Innovative Educators Forum (WWIEF) held in Cape Town, South Africa. For his prize, he received a laptop computer, plaque and a certificate.

More than 600 teachers drawn from 70 countries participated in the forum, sponsored by Microsoft. The teachers gathered to discuss effective ways of using ICT to improve teaching and learning.

Mr Avornyo, accompanied by the Headmaster of Maabang SHS, Mr Edward Ofori, has called on the Ashanti Regional Education Director, Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, to present to him his prize. Mr Onyinah praised him for doing the nation proud. By this achievement, the Regional Director said, Mr Avornyo has established himself as an icon and won the hearts and admiration of teachers and the Ghana Education Service. He told him to continue his good works to serve as role model to both his students and colleague teachers. 10 Nov 10
