Political parties urged to help curb indiscipline in the country.

Winneba (C/R), Nov. 7, GNA – Political parties has been urged to desist from supporting persons who have been fallen foul of the law. Mr Kofi Mintah, a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who made the call said such commission by some of the political parties was breeding indiscipline in the society. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Winneba Junction, Mr Mintah said in situation where political parties boldly and openly protected suspected felons would encourage indiscipline in society. He said in most cases, lawyers who are supposed to know better, would come out to champion the cause of such human rights abusers. Mr Mintah, a former Central Regional Chairman of the party, pointed out that Ghana was a developing country which needed donor support and stressed that no country or agency would support an indiscipline country.

He therefore cautioned the political parties to bear in mind the repercussions of their actions on the development of the country. Mr Mintah noted that this upsurge of indiscipline in the society was a source of concern of some prominent citizens including the clergy and traditional rulers and therefore charged the parties to help solve the problem before it got out of hand. He pointed out that when the supporters realized that their leaders would not support them when they misbehave, they would learn to comport themselves.

Mr Mintah appealed to the parties and the media to stop turning wrong doers into heroes and heroines saying, such “un-called for” support aggravates the problems rather than solving it. 8 Nov. 10
