Tapa-Abotoase Market under waters of Volta Lake

Tapa-Abotoase (V/R), Oct. 23, GNA – Water from the rising levels of the Volta Lake has submerged about three-quarters of the Tapa-Abotoase Market.

Offices of the Tapa Boat Owners Association are also under threat with the waters at its precincts.

Mr Charles Bella Aklatey, Assistant Secretary of the Association, told the Ghana News Agency on Thursday that the offices, also used by the Navy Detachment, would be evacuated. Travelers on the Lake gave account of Island settlements being threatened, with residents compelled to remove roofing materials from their sinking huts to cover emergency makeshift huts further upland.
