Wa Police On Rampage

What happens to a civilized community when the enforcer of the law becomes the perpetrator of crime? So was the story of the Ghana Police in Wa in the Upper West Region on October 9, 2010 in their overzealous quest to enforce traffic regulations!

The capital of the municipality was beseeched with police personnel in an operation geared towards injecting sanity and reversing the spate of avoidable accidents in the Municipality, which is commendable. However, some of the police officers in their quest to impress their senior officers like A.Danso and G. Quansah (staff ID: 301299) rather than upholding the law resulted to physical assault and brazen show of unprofessionalism which was endorsed by the named officers silence.

This did not go down well with well meaning on-looking citizens who wondered aloud the justification for this illegitimate show of force and advised them to operate within the law in order not to tarnish the reputation of the Service, surprisingly some of the police personnel gave one of them some dose of their venom by detaining him and applying some ‘minimum force slaps’!
This is yet another sad story of the unprofessional conduct of some police personnel in the Wa Municipality, especially with reference to the immediate past fracas between them and the Ghana Journalist Association, Wa Branch.
If immediate steps are not taken to investigate and discipline the culpable officers the cordial relationship between the GPS and the Community will be poisoned, especially with regards TO COOPERATION OF THE COMMUNITY WITH THE POLICE!

There are competent people in the police service and the few misfits who slipped into the service should be weeded out!
Who Police’s the Police, or is the police officer the law?
The time to take action is now!!!
