Chiefs in Upper East support women in assembly elections

Bolgatanga, Sept. 28, GNA – The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional area, Bonaba Baba Salifu Alemyaarum and Sapad Naab David Dong, Chief of Kongo in the Talensi-Nabdam District on Tuesday pledged support for women aspiring to stand in the forthcoming district level assembly election to ensure women occupied 50 per cent of the assembly seats.

Naba Alemyaarum, who participated in a three-day capacity building workshop held for aspiring assembly women, said women had the potential of bringing development to their people and urged them not to be deterred by men who would use all means to discourage them from achieving their dreams.

Naba Alemyaarum said he was encouraging women to stand in this year’s election to enable them assist in bringing improvement in the livelihoods of their fellow women. He advised aspirants to consider the poverty levels of the region when packaging their campaign messages and avoid insults. Sapad Naab Dong advised the aspirants to know their limitations as assembly women when they win and not take over the duties of chiefs. 28 Sept 10
