Elubo Traders appeal for government support

Elubo Sept. 28,GNA – Traders at the Elubo Central Market have expressed their disappointment over the government’s failure to assist them after the fire that razed through their wares on September 22. Mr. Kobena Owusu, Chairman of Elubo Traders Association, said they had not received any support from the government or the National Disaster Management Organization(NADMO).

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Elubo at the weekend, he said over 400 traders were affected by the fire and therefore appealed to the Jomoro District Assembly and National Disaster Organization to come to their aid.

Mr. Owusu said the traders lost about 300 million Ghana Cedis in the fire outbreak and some of the traders are putting up temporary structures to use.

One of the traders, Madam Pat Coker, said four of her stores were burnt and she lost GH¢100,000 Cedis in the process. Madam Coker said she took a bank loan to start her business and that if government did not come to her aid, she would end up in prison since she would not get money to pay the loan.
