Need for hoisting of national flag in schools

Sakyikrom(ER), Sept 23, GNA – The Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive, Mr George Agyeman-Duah, on Wednesday stressed the need for all schools to fly the national flag as a means of instilling in pupils the love for country and respect for national institutions. Mr Duah said the National Flag like the National Anthem embodied the spirit and soul of the nation and should be given absolute respect. He said this when he visited some schools to welcome pupils in Kindergarten and Class One on their first day at school to mark the beginning of the academic year in basic schools. Mr Duah questioned why the National Flag was not flying at those schools and directed the heads to make sure that they did so. During his rounds, the DCE, accompanied by the District Director of Education, Mrs Rosemond Comfort Abrah, distributed exercise books, biscuits, fruit juice drinks, pencils and drinking cups to the beginners.

The two officials interacted with pupils and parents of Anweam Roman Catholic Primary, Akyem Takyimang Presbyterian, Methodist and Presbyterian primary schools and the District Assembly at Sakyikrom. The DCE urged teachers to show love and dedication to their work and produce f uture leaders who would play great roles in nation building.

Mrs Abrah appealed to parents to show greater concern for the education and well-being of their children and urged them to ensure that their children were at school instead of sending them to the farm during school hours. At Akyem Takyimang the DCE said the kitchen of the Presbyterian Primary School, which provides food for children under the school feeding programme, would be rehabilitated. He gave the Anweam R/C and Sakyikrom D/A schools jerseys and footballs and called for the promotion of sports in the school. Eighty-five school uniforms were also given to girls at Sakyikrom.
