The case involving a partner of the EO Group Mr. George Owusu, who is alleged to have jumped bail, has been adjourned to October 13, this year. The lawyer appeared at the Cocoa Affairs court 6 in Accra with Mr. Owusu’s surety, yesterday, and promised that he will produce his client on the adjourned date.
Mr. Owusu who was also the former Country Manager of Kosmos Energy was absent in court.Mr. Owusu is on a $100,000 bail bond for his alleged involvement in a multi-million dollar case, but violated his bail terms by refusing to report himself to the police.
The former Kosmos country manger wrote a letter through his lawyer to the police, saying that he was attending a meeting abroad which may take a couple of weeks and so does not know when he will return to Ghana.
Mr. Owusu failed to report to the police CID on a scheduled August 31, 2010 date, prompting a police enquiry into his whereabouts. His lawyer was said to have told police earlier that he could not locate his whereabouts. It is not clear why Owusu decided to jump bail, as facts available to the Enquirer newspaper indicate that on all occasions that he had sought permission to travel outside the country, his request had been granted.
George Owusu’s alleged absconding has heightened suspicions in some circles that he must certainly have something to hide, hence taking that line of action. The Attorney General’s Department filed an application to compel the person who stood surety for Mr. Owusu to either pay the $100,000 bail bond or be imprisoned. He was hauled to the court for his involvement in alleged forging if invoices, fraudulent misrepresentation and other acts bordering on criminality which characterized the dealings between the E.O. Group-Kosmos Energy operations in the country.
