I am not a drunkard- Kabila

The national youth organizer of the Convention People¹s party (CPP) has
admitted hitting a young woman with his car but considers it as purely
accidental.
Kwabena Bonfeh told Emefa Apawu, host of the Big Bite on X FM 95.1, a
commercial private radio station in Accra that he was not drunk when he hit
his car contrary to speculations that he was.
The Daily Post newspaper reported in its Tuesday, September 14, 2010 edition
that investigations it conducted had revealed that Mr Bonfeh knocked down a
young lady on May 8, 2010 while driving. The accident occurred at Bubiashie,
a suburb of Accra at 9:00 am.
The victim, Nana Yaa Nkansah, was rushed unconscious to the Cocoa Clinic at
Kaneshie where she was on admission for five days.
According to the paper, Mr Bonfeh who reported himself to the Kaneshie
Police was behaving in a manner that made the police suspect that he was
drunk. A test was therefore conducted on him with alcohol sensor III which
recorded 0.9 per cent, which meant that the alcohol in his system had not
gone beyond what is permissible for drivers.
This notwithstanding, the paper maintained that Mr Bonfeh was drunk when he
got involved in the accident.
But Kwabena Bonfeh described the Daily Post story as baseless and without
any authenticity.
He said even though there was an accident on the said day, he was not drunk.
He said he reported the incident to the police himself asking how he could
have done that if he were drunk. ³Somebody who was behaving somehow will
walk from an accident scene to the police station?²
Kwabena Bonfeh is convinced the Daily Post newspaper is out on a mission to
taint his reputation however, he said the paper is rather achieving the
opposite. ³Daily Post is making me great. They want to ride on names like
Kwabena Bonfeh to sell their paper,² he said.

But the Managing Editor of the Daily Post, Michael Dokosi still maintains
Kwabena Bonfeh was drunk at the time the accident.
He suspects some unseen hands are working desperately to get the incident
covered up saying efforts by his paper to retrieve information from the
hospital staff, police and the family members of the victim have all been
unsuccessful.
