Tamale SOS village appeals for support

Tamale, Sept. 11, GNA – Authorities of the Tamale SOS Village have appealed to benevolent organisations to support the village in any form, especially financial, to be able to take care of the children. Mr Christopher Logotera, Tamale SOS village Director, made the appeal on Saturday during a fraternization meeting with some key personalities including Muslim scholars in Tamale and inmates of the village.

The fraternization was meant to showcase the village and to offer some food to the inmates as part of the Eid-Ul-Fitr celebration to make the children feel integrated.

Mr Logotera said the village spent more than GH¢1,000 a week to purchase water saying; “I think if people come in to support us financially, it would reduce the financial burden on us.” He said the village had been engaging in talks with the Ghana Water Company for some time now to extend water to the village but nothing had come out of the discussion.

He said another area that needed attention was the medical centre in the village, which was still not operational and that children had always been sent out for treatment which was a drain on its resources. Mr Logotera said there were 53 children in the village with 14 mothers who took good care of them in all the 12 family houses and stressed that the SOS would always strive to ensure that children’s needs were met. A short documentary on the success story of SOS Ghana was shown, which moved some of the people to pledge their support to the village. The Tamale SOS Village is the fourth in the country after Tema, Asokwa and Kumasi where excellent child care services, education and other social amenities were provided.
