Government pleads with O’Reilly landowners for three years extension

Accra, Aug. 30, GNA – Nii Armah Ashittey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, on Monday said government would re-negotiate with the landowners of O’Reilly Senior High School for at least three years extension.

This was the outcome of a meeting held to discuss the current dilemma of the school in Accra.

It was attended by Dr Alfred Vanderpuije, Accra Mayor, Board of Governors of the school and Ms Mary Adu-Gyamfi, Headmistress of the school, representatives from Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service.

Nii Ashittey said the extension would help government to find appropriate area to relocate the school and facilitate its development within three years.

He announced that the school authorities had been offered land by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Ledzorkuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly, Ga West and South Municipal Assemblies.

Nii Ashietey said government delegation would tour those places to decide on the appropriate place to relocate the school.

He said all the assemblies in Greater Accra Region would collaborate to provide solution to the problems of O’Reilly to ensure the school did not move outside the region, and noted that admission of first year students for this academic year would be in progress while necessary measures were taken to solve the problem.

Nii Ashittey said rent for the land would be paid to the owners during the next three years.
